WHY BEAVER CREEK LODGE?
If you are just looking for a comfortable and beautiful place to spend the night that is affordable and relatively close to Canton, Potsdam, Gouverneur, Ogdensburg, Thousand Islands, or even perhaps Black Lake, then Beaver Creek is a wonderful option. The farmhouse has enough of space to handle most families. If you are just passing through, you will appreciate all the comforts offered by the farmhouse, particularly the memory foam beds, the jacuzzi-bath tub, the roominess, and of course, the fully equipped kitchen and the option of making breakfast (and other meals) for yourself and/or your family in the morning.

KAYAKING -- we provide two lake kayaks at the lodge, one double/single and one single. (We can provide more upon a request for extended stays or groups). We also provide life vests that you are required to wear. Beaver Creek is a small creek that has very slow current-- no rapids or white water. The creek meanders through a vast area of wet- lands, marshes and pine forests that are very secluded. You may see a distant farm from time to time and that is about it. There are periodic rock cliffs and huge pine stands, and the creek is lined with water lilies, cat-of nine tails, and countless other aquatic plants and shrubs that we don't even know the names of. If you like this kind of kayaking, Upper and Lower Lakes wildlife refuge is just a few miles away and also has a vast area of wetlands and marches to canoe or kayak, plus a nature center and hiking trails. More about kayaking in St. Lawrence County.

And of course there are also vast numbers of diverse birds and water fell that come with this kind of eco-system. Beaver, fox, coyote, deer and even bob cat and eagles have also been seen here. Beaver creek passes through about 3500 acres of the Beaver Creek State forest preserve that provides hunting opportunities. If you have never kayaked before, don't fear. Our crafts are lake kayaks that are very stable and roomy, and reasonably easy to get in and out of at our dock where the water is very shallow. You don't do "rolls" here and jump over water falls -- this is not triple XXX extreme stuff. This is for the nature lover who enjoys leasure exercize, beauty and solitude. The kayaks have high back rests and are very comfortable, even on extend trips. The real beauty of kayaking like this is how intimate you are with the water and surrounding landscape. You are actually sitting in the water so to speak. The kayaks are very quiet and efficient so you move along very peacefully without requiring a huge amount of energy. We also provide kayak excursions to other rivers and lakes in the area. (No white water). Two of our favorite being Payne Lake and the Oswegatchie River. MORE ABOUT THE OSWEGATCHIE RIVER. We can transport the kayaks to secluded river locations for floats of varying lengths and pick you up at the end, or join you as a guide. Contact us if you are interested. If you are interested in white water kayaking or other lake and river kayaking you can click for MORE ABOUT KAYAKING IN THE AREA.

FISHING -- Beaver Creek, like many of the smaller streams and rivers in St. Lawrence County is teaming with fish because of how clean the water is and also how little fishing pressure the waters of this area get. You will find Beaver Creek to have good fishing for Bass and Northern Pike particularly. Other rivers for fishing are the Oswegatchie, Rackette, Grass, and nearby Black Lake that is world famous for its Bass fishing. MORE ABOUT FISHING IN THE AREA.

PHOTOGRAPHY -- If you are a nature lover and particularly like to photograph birds and water foul, you will find Beaver Creek, as with our other lodge - Oswegatchie River Lodge, to be a wonderful place to photograph. Because of the wet lands and marshes that are around Beaver Creek, and the foods and protection that these ecosystems provide, the area is teaming with all sorts of birds, ducks, geese, and other waterfowl. In the fall particularly, you will see and hear literally thousands of Canadian Geese fly into the waters right in front of the farmhouse as they organize themselves for the long migration south. It is something to behold.

EXPLORING AMISH COUNTRY -- Beaver Creek Lodge is surrounded by Amish farms. If you simply just stay at the lodge and sit outside, you might see 10 to 20 buggies cross over the bridge right at the farmhouse. If you bike, hike or drive around the area, you will see many interesting sights of the Amish farming with draft horses, sometimes 4 or 5 in hand. Sometimes you will see some horse drawn equipment that defies the imagination as to its purpose. You will see so many splendid gardens and colorful outdoor clothes lines draped with colorful quilts and the traditional Amish clothes of blues, purples and black. If you are here in the Spring-Summer or Fall, you will see many roadside stands with fresh vegetables and pies, doughnuts, breads, homemade butter, jams and jellies, and one of our favorites, hand picked wild blueberries. Last but not least, you will see many Amish folks themselves, particularly interesting are the children, with their broad rimmed hats, big inquisitive eyes and round faces. They look at you -- and I mean really look at you, right into your eyes -- from their farm yards or wagons they are riding and you cannot help but wonder what they are thinking. This is not a tourist area. The Amish here are the real McCoy and they make our hearts sing every time we experience them. MORE ABOUT THE AMISH.

BIRD WATCHING - There are many different kinds of birds that hang out in and around the Beaver Creek. We also have several bird feeders around the house, right on the windows of the sun room, that bring birds within touching distance.
